Know about childhood from different perspectives

Salima and Delia are identical twins who were raised separately – their parents split shortly after the twins were born and Salima was raised by her mother and Delia was raised by her father.

The father moved to Manchester after the split with Delia, but decided to move back to Norfolk when Delia turned 11 so the twins can get to know each other and go to secondary school together. It has been remarked upon that despite growing up in different homes, they both have very similar mannerisms and personalities. At school, however, Salima is outperforming her biological sister in tests and exams and teachers have noticed that she has a greater enthusiasm for learning than her twin.

  1. What does the study of twins tell us about the nature vs. nurture debate?
  2. What factors may have contributed to Salima having a greater enthusiasm for learning than her twin, Delia?
  3. If one of the twins had experienced social disadvantage during the time they were apart, how might this have affected them? Would their personalities still be so very similar?
