Understand the kinds of strategies needed to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities

Case Study

The class teacher and yourself have noticed that Anju, a new student in your class, is having problems working at the same level as the rest of the class. You do not know if this is because all the content is new to him or whether there is an underlying issue.
  1. Who should be the potential problem be referred to?
  2. Should the class teacher talk to the parents?
  3. How could the school support the child?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
