Case Study
Mrs Asher is striding towards you and you can see by the look on her face that she is not happy. She tells you that her 4 year old daughter has told her that you would not let her have any dessert. What you had actually said was that she could not have the mashed banana as this was for the babies. Mrs Asher’s daughter sulked and said “I’m telling my mummy of you.” She then refused to eat the dessert choices offered to her out of protest.
- How will you effectively tell Mrs Asher the fully story?
- How might Mrs Asher react to your communication?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
