Case Study
Robert’s grandma has just died and, as she lived with Robert, he is particularly affected by the fact that she is no longer in his home. As his mother and father both work, Robert’s grandma cared for him in their absence and brought him to the setting. Robert asks you who will bring him to nursery now and who will look after him if his mummy and daddy die too.
- What are Robert’s anxieties?
- How would you respond to Robert’s question?
- How could you help Robert through the transition of bereavement?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
