Know how to support children and young people experiencing transitions.

This video from the Center for Child Counseling suggests 'Tips for Helping Children Transition from One Activity or Place to Another'. Watch the film and make notes of anything you can use in your setting. What other tips would you give to a peer to help with supporting transitions?

Download and read the NFER research document, ‘A Study of the Transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1’.
Look at your setting’s policies on settling a new child into the group and moving to a new room. Do you know them well? Do you follow them yourself?
Think about the feelings a child might have when coming into a new setting or room. At what parts of the day do you think they might need the most support?
