Case Study
What do we teach?- What the learner must know
- What the learner should know
- What the learner could know
- As a tutor you have a syllabus or curriculum that tells you what you must teach. Think beyond that to what other learning you could include in your lessons that would stretch and broaden a student’s experiences of learning. Draw up a chart with three columns and list what a learner must, should and could learn from your teaching. Think about ‘soft skills’ such as the ability to focus, problem solve, debate etc. and include those in your chart.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
