Do you encourage respectful behaviour towards all adults? How do you make sure that all parents feel included and welcomed?

Take time to make yourself familiar with various cultures, unique needs, dietary requirements, and special needs for each child in your care. Make a note of your findings and take some time to research them, using the internet, any books or leaflets in the local library and, most importantly, the parents of the children themselves.

Try to obtain and read a copy of ‘Child Care: Kith, Kin and Hired Hands’ by Emmy Werner. You might like to look for this book at your local library.
Write a list of things that you would need to tell a new parent to your childcare service. Think about the things they need to know for themselves and for their child. Think about things that will help them to feel confident about leaving their child with you: the safety procedures, what activities you might be doing that day.
