Case Study
You are working with a group of children in a science lesson and they have been asked to investigate the properties of a variety of materials. The teacher wants them to devise their own tests and record the reasons for the tests as well as their findings and conclusions. One of the children in the group you are working with has forgotten to bring her science overall and goggles and cannot understand why you have said that she cannot be involved in the experiments with the rest of her group.
- How will you explain the reason behind your decision?
- How can you support the girl to understand and assess the risks the activity might present?
- How might you support finding a satisfactory solution to this problem?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
