Case Study
Sabina is dismissed from her job because she was overheard telling a colleague that she was trying for a baby. She was in her probation period and her employer dismissed her with a weeks’ notice. In the dismissal letter, the employer gives the reason for the dismissal as her being late to work on more than 3 occasions. This isn’t true and Sabina was never late in, which can be proved by her team leader. Her team leader is the one to tell Sabina the real reason for the dismissal.
- Did her employer do anything wrong?
- What action could Sabina take against her employer?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
