The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health

Case Study

Jacky one of your clients is and has been training for a 100-mile bike ride for charity in 8 weeks’ time. Her training has been going well but she needs extra help with nutrition in the build-up, during the event and after the event. She has come to you. Think about how you would support Jacky, including:
  1. Collecting information and analysing current nutritional information?
  2. Nutrition for performance in an endurance event?
  3. Analysing her current food diary and note areas of improvement?
  4. What macro and micronutrients are essential for Jacky?
  5. Is hydration important?
  6. How can she prepare prior to the event?
  7. How can nutrition help her during the event?
  8. What would you recommend for post event for recovery?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
