Know the principles of healthy eating

Case Study

Liam is a young man who works with primary aged children, He often talks about how he goes running or to the gym every night and that is how he keeps fit. However, you have noticed that every time you see him, he seems to be drinking a can of fizzy drink, and he never chooses the low sugar versions. He also says that, because he goes straight to the gym after work, he often eats fast food or skips dinner.
  1. This is not really the sign of a healthy lifestyle. The being slim, exercising a lot, having a job, is all great but how might you want to advise Liam about the damage he could be doing to himself by regularly drinking fizzy drinks full of sugar, junk food and skipping meals?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
