Lead communication in adult care settings

Ali is a lead practitioner at a care home and is aware of a number of the residents at the care home who speak Bengali as their first language, and English as an Additional Language.

A junior practitioner has mentioned that she doesn’t think some of the residents can read the posters and signage on display. In the local area, there is a large Bangladeshi community and Ali is wondering if there is anyone who could help with making the setting more inclusive.

  1. What specifically, could Ali ask the local community for help with?
  2. Why is it important that individuals in health and social care settings can navigate their environment and feel welcomed and included?

It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
