Facilitate change in health and social care or children and young people’s settings

Case Study

You have just come from a meeting with your line manager during which you were told that there needs to be some major changes made to the way your team works in order to spread staff breaks and have more people ‘on duty’ at any one time. You feel that staffing is already stretched and are not convinced the senior management’s solution has considered all the options and the potential problems. You have been asked to cascade the plan to your team later today.
  1. Should you support the management plan?
  2. How will you manage the meeting with your team especially if they express concerns that the new plan is unworkable?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
