One of your team leaders comes to you with concerns about a member of staff. She informs you that Jane, although very good at her job, is not working as part of the team and does not follow the care plan. There is also concern that Jane is very involved with the service user and on a very friendly basis. Your team leader informs you that she has done some supervision to support Jane but that Jane did not see a problem with the way that she was working.
You have been asked if you could take over the situation as other member of staff are getting fed up with Jane and complaining about working a shift with her. The team leader does not want to lose any of the staff.
- What do you think would be the best way to approach this situation?
-
Do you feel that this is a leadership or management issue?
-
Does the team leader need further training/support to handle this situation?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
