Case Study

3 You have been allocated a pot of money for a new project to help your local community. You have identified a member of staff whom you feel would be perfect for this job role. This person has never managed a team before but is very enthusiastic and willing to give it a go with your support.
  1. What skills do you think you will need to support this member of staff?
  2. What skills does this member of staff need to develop?
  3. What goals need to be set for this project?
  4. Using Mintzbergs’ 5 Configurations model, identify where this project lies.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
