Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors

Think about when someone first enters into the gym and you are on the gym floor. This might be their first time in a gym or they have had some time off and might be nervous, feeling daunted and apprehensive. Think about:
  • Your approach to this person.
  • Depending on their needs and personality how can we adapt to help them?
  • Do they want to be approached? Do they need help?
  • Think about your first impressions on them? This includes body language, communication etc
  • How do you make them feel at ease when communicating with them?
  • How can you go above and beyond customer care?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
