Case study

Your organisation is planning to have a stall at several career fairs in the area to recruit some new apprentices. You have been asked to help with the creation of a database to track the different fairs attended, the types of apprenticeship the company is offering, and the names of the young people who expressed an interest at joining the company. Each person completed a questionnaire saying who they were, how old they were, where they lived, and which apprenticeships they were interested in. They were given the opportunity to select multiple apprenticeships.
  • Write out the steps you would take to create the database, the tables you would use, and the Primary Keys for the data.
  • How would you keep the information secure and confidential?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
