Be able to communicate effectively with others

Case Study

Your setting manager has noticed that the family members of Polish individuals at your setting do not attend any of the social events that are organised. At a staff meeting she has asked all staff to try and find out why.
  • What reasons might there be for these individuals not including themselves in social events?
  • How will you discuss this issue with the Polish speaking family members?
  • How will you check that they understand what you are saying to them?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
