S1 Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure

Case study 2

Abigal has been working with you in the setting for a number of months and you have realised that you have not seen her eat anything for lunch in the last two weeks. She is also looking very pale and doesn’t seem to have as much energy as she used to have. You have also heard her mention to a colleague that her boyfriend thinks that she needs to lose weight and so he doesn’t let her make a lunch for work or let her have any money to buy food.
  • Do you think this is a cause for concern?
  • How would you act in response to your concerns?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
