Tom has come to you asking for help. He is a marathon runner who has never struggled with weight. He is happy with his body composition but feels sometimes he lacks energy on his running training. He isn’t sure how to fuel his body properly and has read a lot of articles but wanted seek professional advice before he changed anything in his current diet.
  1. What information do you need to collect to help most effectively?
  2. Is it appropriate and do you need to do body composition on him?
  3. How could goals be set? What short, mid and long-term goals could there be?
  4. Using your knowledge about energy systems and energy fuel what advice could you offer?
  5. What it be useful to have a record of food intake?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
